Hollywood Boulevard is a light music overture for reduced orchestra. It was commissioned by Josh Tobias for his graduate conducting recital and is inspired by the glamour of mid-century Hollywood films.

Program Note:

Hollywood Boulevard evokes the glitz and glamour of life in Golden Age-Era Hollywood. From the powerful diesel trains, extravagant architecture, spectacular studio lots, and the chance of spontaneous romance, Hollywood was at its height. I’ve always been intrigued by mid-20th-century light music and its ties to commercial imagery in the 1940s and 50s. Light music also played a role in inspiring the music used by Disney in the same era. My dad is a Disney fanatic (mainly for the older stuff), so my childhood was filled with stellar orchestration and fun melodies from the 30s, 40s, and 50s, strengthening my love and ear for this unique style of music. I hope you will be transported to a world of wonder, excitement, and joy when you listen to Hollywood Boulevard.
